Abstract

Pojam „plastika“ odnosi se na sintetičke polimere koji su sveprisutni u suvremenom društvu. Tijekom posljednjih nekoliko desetljeća globalna proizvodnja i potrošnja plastike rastu alarmantnom brzinom. Sve većim korištenjem plastike istodobno se povećava i akumulacija sveprisutne otpadne plastike na odlagalištima otpada i u okolišu što predstavlja globalni estetski, ali i ekološki problem. Iz tog razloga provode se različiti postupci zbrinjavanja otpada.
U hijerarhiji različitih postupaka zbrinjavanja otpada nalazi se recikliranje ili oporaba otpada. Oporaba plastičnog otpada može biti mehanička, kemijska i energetska, a nastali produkti mogu se ponovno upotrijebiti u korisne svrhe. Takav način zbrinjavanja otpadne plastike trenutačno je najisplativije rješenje kojim se nastoji izbjeći odlaganje otpada na odlagalištima, odnosno smanjiti količinu otpada.
Tijekom posljednja dva desetljeća problem otpada sve više se preusmjerava s metoda odlaganja na prevenciju i recikliranje.
Države članice Europske unije zalažu se za implementaciju i usklađivanje aktualnih zakonskih mjera vezanih uz plastične predmete koje su propisane europskim direktivama, a krajnji cilj je model kružnog gospodarstva u kojem će se plastika koristiti na održiviji način, a stvaranje otpada svesti na minimum.

Abstract (english)

The term "plastics" refers to synthetic polymers that are ubiquitous in a modern society. Over the past few decades, the global production and consumption of plastics have been growing at an alarming rate. The growing trend in the use of plastics simultaneously increases the accumulation of ubiquitous waste plastics in landfills and in the environment, which represents a global aesthetic as well as ecological problem. For this reason different waste disposal procedures are implemented.
In the hierarchy of different waste disposal procedures, there is recycling or waste recovery. The recovery of plastic waste can be mechanical, chemical and energetic, and resulting products can be reused for useful purposes. Such a way of disposing of waste plastics is currently the most cost-effective solution and it tries to avoid dumping waste in landfills, i.e., to reduce the amount of waste.
Over the past two decades, the problem of waste has shifted increasingly from disposal methods to prevention and recycling.
The member states of the European Union are committed to implementing and harmonizing current legal measures related to plastic items that are prescribed by European directives, and the ultimate goal is a circular economy model that will use plastics in a more sustainable way and reduce waste generation to a minimum.
